Portrait of T. Mike Walker, collage artist

T. Mike Walker grew up in San Francisco and received his MA in Language Arts from San Francisco University, where he taught Creative Writing from 1962-1965.  His first novel, A Way From The World: A Policeman’s Journal, was published in 1970 by Grove Press (available at Amazon.com).  It reflects his experience as a policeman from 1960-1963.

In 1966, Walker created his first 2D collage art pieces and sold them thru the Psychedelic Shop on Haight Street, as well as at the 1st Acid Test with Ken Kesey and Bill Grahan at Longshoreman’s Hall in North Beach.  His humorous novel, Respect, reflects a portion of this experience (available at Amazon.com).

He taught Creative Writing at Cabrillo Community College from 1968-1998.  When he retired into full-time art and play in 1998, he resumed his explorations of collage, drawing, watercolor, acrylic art, and grant writing.

Walker was Santa Cruz Art League Board President from 2006-2010, and is currently the SCAL Executive Director.

He has exhibited in many group and juried exhibitions at the Santa Cruz Art League, as well as solo shows in the community, in venues such as Santa Cruz Hearts for the Arts, the Santa Cruz Fungus Fair (10 years), Louden Nelson Community Center, Unitarian Fellowship, Dominican Hospital, the Santa Cruz County Building, The Attic, “Altogether” Assemblage & Collage Collaborative, Seabright Brewery, Pure Water Store, numerous juried shows, the Tidehouse Cafe & Pub, Mountainview, 50/50 at Sanchez Art Center, September 2010, Mix-It-Up at SCAL, 2011, and more.
